The audio launch of Ilaignan, Kalaignar's 75th film as story, screenplay and dialogue writer, was a grand affair at Sathyam cinemas on Sunday (December 5).
The audio was released by the CM and received by none other than Superstar Rajnikanth himself.
The film is produced by S Martin and stars lyricist Pa Vijay in the screen adaptation of one of Kalaignar's earlier works, which was based on a Russian novel.
The role of the mother called Valliammai, an important one, is played by Khushboo who was also present at the function. She said that she was indeed lucky to be reciting the CM's dialogues and that it gave her more pleasure than the first time she saw herself on screen.
For Pa Vijay the film is a dream come true since he gets to recite dialogues by the Kalaignar himself. 'On the first day I could not move when he came to the sets and said รข€˜action,'' recalled Vijay.
Suman who has done a major role in the film too, expressed a similar joy. 'In my 34 years in the industry, this film is a unique experience for me since I get to mouth dialogues by the Kalaignar.'
The film's music has been composed by Vidyasagar. And it's the 50th film for director Suresh Krishna who is in the 25th year of his career.
Others present at the glittering function were deputy CM Stalin, Kanimozhi MP, and political big wigs. Also seen were Namitha, Meera Jasmine and Ramya Nambeesan who star in the film. Lyricist's Vaali and Vairamuthu were all praise for the CM's long stint as a writer.
Rajini too was all praise for the CM, Pa Vijay and Suresh Krishna. 'Performers like me can age, but the power of the pen that the Kalaingar has can never grow old,' said the Superstar.
The film's trailer and three songs were showcased at the function. Later, mementoes were presented to the dignitaries.
A highlight of the film is the giant ship created by art director Thota Tharani at Binny mills. The film is slated for a Pongal release.

Film: 'Mirpakaya'; Cast: Ravi Teja, Richa Gangopadhyay, Deeksha Sethu, Prakash Raj, Sunil, Kota, Ajay, Brahmaji, Naga Babu, Chandra Mohan and others; Director: Harish Shankar; Producer: Ramesh Puppala; Music Director: Taman; Camera: C. Rama Prasad; Rating: ** 1/2
Director Harish Shankar's latest offering 'Mirpakaya' (Chillies) is nothing but a stereotyped film of Ravi Teja. If you have been watching Ravi Teja movies like 'Don Seenu', 'Dubai Seenu' or 'Kick', you may not find anything different or any freshness in the narration.

But it should not be assumed that the film fails mainly because of the monotony. The film may look repetitive, but the viewers may find it reasonably enjoyable because of the fantastic screen presence of the energetic star. He is on the wrong side of the forties, but you don't see any actor in the Telugu or even in the neighbouring film industries come up with so much variety in dialogue delivery, action, comedy and dance.

Ravi Teja's films can be compared to Shammi Kapoor's movies of the 1960s which were essentially enjoyable on screen thanks to good songs and hilarious sequences, but lacked substance or a logical plot. But Shammi fans did not get bored of seeing his routine stuff again and again and so is the case with Ravi Teja's fans.

Harish Shankar, who did different film Ravi Teja called 'Shock', seems to have learnt his lessons. Therefore decided to stick to the successful formula than to experiment with a new genre for the lanky actor who can entertain people whenever he shows up on screen. Shankar prepared a script that perfectly suits Ravi Teja's body language and his mimicking abilities.

The story seems like a mix of Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Main Hoon Na', a couple of Korean films and some previous movies of Ravi Teja. Chances are Shankar may well succeed in luring audience with his latest attempt.

Shankar has not taken interest in providing a cutting edge to the film by his writing or giving a neat characterisation to the roles performed by two heroines or the villain role played by Prakash Raj.

Thaman's music are not a patch on his earlier work. The dialogues are not excellent, but some are good and has punch such as - 'You can purchase a sword by paying Rs.10, but can't purchase the courage and dynamism to use the weapon effectively.'

Rishi, an undercover agent working for an intelligence agency, is sent to Hyderabad to investigate an under cover operation. He starts off as a Hindi lecturer in a college where Vaishali, daughter of a Don Kittu Bhai studies.

Rishi is in love Vinamra. How Rishi succeeds in his mission by befriending Vaishali and nab Kittu Bhai forms the rest of the plot.

Ravi Teja makes a strong impact with his towering presence. He does a fine job in comedy sequences shown in college and also in action scenes. Richa Gangopadhyay has still to learn many things and her pairing with Ravi Teja doesn't look good on screen. Deeksha Seth looks glamorous.

Sunil and Ali evoke laughter, while Kota and Chandra Mohan fit in their roles perfectly. Prakash Raj is as usual superb as a don though his characterisation looks similar in most of the Telugu films released recently.

Despite its flaws, 'Mirpakaya' will be thoroughly enjoyed by Ravi Teja's fans. For others, it may well be a time pass film.
No One Killed Jessica review: Feel the rage with Rani & Vidya
Movie
No One Killed Jessica
Director
Rajkumar Gupta
Cast
Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji, Neil Bhoopalam, Myra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub

Sonia Chopra

The film doesn’t start with the Jessica Lall murder case immediately. In fact, it beats around the bush for far too long.Rani Mukerji’s Meera Geyti is a firebrand TV journalist and her voiceover starts the film. The character talks about Delhi and how she hasn’t yet managed to figure out the city. But she does feel the city is drunk on power and “everybody’s a somebody in Delhi”.
Geyti is covering the Kargil war and ticking off curious air passengers who thank her for the entertaining coverage. We like her immediately.
Special: All about No One Killed Jessica | Images: Rani & Vidya on the sets ofNa Aana Is Des Laado
Her character is delicately nuanced (even if slightly exaggerated) - whether it’s smoking on the terrace of her home, shouting for pickle at dinner while watching the news, or her straightforward manner of talking.
She’s a delight, and more so is Rani Mukerji essaying the part. A powerhouse actor anyway, Mukerji raises the bar giving one of her career’s most honest and memorable performances.
Equally evocative is the underplayed performance by Vidya Balan as Jessica’s sister Sabrina. While Mukerji’s story track comes alive only in the second half of the movie, Balan is present throughout.
The story slowly veers towards the fateful night when a minister’s son and his friends shoot model Jessica Lall for refusing to serve them a drink. Sabrina finds an ally in an honest cop (Rajesh Sharma, fab), but the odds seem stacked against them.
The film then trails the case over the years with witnesses threatened, justice delayed, and ultimately denied. But Sabrina, who is all set to give up, finds a new ray of hope.
One of the most priceless scenes of the film is where the murderer’sghoonghat-clad mother tells her minister husband “kuch bhi karo, mere Monuko kuch nahin hona chahiye”. But did this important (it speaks volumes about the murderer’s upbringing) scene need to be repeated thrice?

Repetition is a recurring issue in the film. The fact that Geyti mistakes the Jessica story to be a simple case is also reiterated several times.
Another sore point with the film is the portrayal of high-society as caricatures. It is hard to believe that a socialite would sit in a police station and ask for the AC to be switched on.
Rajkumar Gupta, who directed the film Aamir in 2008 doesn’t want the viewer to be bogged down by the subject. His effort in injecting drama and tempo in the storytelling makes the film accessible to a mainstream audience. But the pace slackens at times.
One of the film’s stronger points is Amit Trivedi’s addictive music whether it’s the Dilli Dilli or the Aali Re song. Disappointingly, the songs aren’t propped up the way you expect after watching the promos.
But on the upside, there are some superb touches like Sabrina’s journey of meeting the witnesses portrayed through food, the awkward scene between the parents of the perpetrator and the victim, and the candlelight march.

The performances by the central cast are superlative, and equally praiseworthy is a massive performance by the supporting cast.
No One Killed Jessica is not as audacious and pacy as the promos would have you believe. But the film manages to do one very crucial thing: it evokes your sentiments. You feel empathy, rage, helplessness, and triumph at every step of the way with our two female heroes.
So even if there are a few flaws, the film moves you. And nothing is above that. A must-watch!

Rich visuals, top-class technology makes 'Anaganaga...' a must watch (Telugu Movie Review)

Film: 'Anaganaga Oka Dheerudu'; Cast: Siddharth, Shruti Haasan, Manchu Lakshmi Prasanna, Ravi Babu, Ali, Baby Harshita and others; Director: Prakash Rao Kovelamudi; Producers: Prasad Devineni-Prakash Rao Kovelamudi; Music: M.M. Keeravani, Koti, Mickey J. Meyer, Salim-Sulaiman Camera: S. Soundar Rajan; Rating: ***
Let us talk about the good points of 'Anaganaga Oka Dheerudu' presented by Walt Disney Productions and the Telugu film industry's best known director K. Raghavendra Rao. Directed by Prakash Rao Kovelamudi, son of Raghavendra Rao, the film sets a new standard for technical work in Telugu film industry. It may be targetting kids and teenagers, but it boasts of gripping story and makes audiences watch it with curiousty.

Besides the rich visuals in the film that makes it an interesting viewing, the story is narrated with utmost sincerity. And the lead artists, who are extremely intelligent and outspoken in real life, show utmost honesty in performing the roles with all the seriousness it deserves.

In the last seven years, fantasy films have been appreciated by Telugu audiences. Starting from 'Pathala Bhairavi' to 'Arundathi' and 'Magadheera', fantasy films have become super hits. All these hugely popular movies excelled in the state of art and contemporary technical extravaganza. 'Anaganaga Oka Dheerudu' is not an exception. But one thing that makes you little unhappy is that the film falls a little short in terms of its impact on audience because of the weakness in the script and dragging narration.

The inconsistency is evident when the film raises the tempo in few sequences and immediately drops down, thanks to dragging sequences. Many scenes looked predictable.

The story revolves around a blind warrior Yodha who is on a mission to free people of Angarajya from the evil queen Irendri. Yodha is accompanied by a young girl called Moksha who has been rescued by him.

The evil queen learns can live for ever if she swallows the blood of Moksha who has some mythical powers. How Yodha rescues both Moksha and Priya from the clutches of Irendri forms the rest of the plot.

Hats off to Lakshmi Prasanna for performing a negative character with such elan. She comes across as a fine actress who can be used well by other talented directors.

Siddharth works hard to look like a warrior and delivers a neat performance. Shruti looks quite attractive and makes a wonderful screen presence. She shares a good screen chemistry with Siddharth. Ravi Babu is good as a villain.

Technically, the film is brilliant. The camera work and art work by Soundara Rajan and Bhoopathy is top class. The film has four music directors, but only the background score is impressive.

'Anaganaga Oka Dheerudu' is one of the best technical films in the Telugu film industry.
